Bill Masters

Bill Masters is a visionary and entrepreneur, whose accomplishments span more than thirty years of inventing, designing, manufacturing, and developing processes and consumer products. In 1974 Bill founded Perception Kayaks in Easley, SC and grew that company worldwide to become the largest kayak manufacturer in the world with manufacturing operations in Great Britain and New Zealand.  During this time he received numerous awards, including SBA South Carolina Entrepreneur of the year as well as Inc/ Ernst Young Entrepreneur of the Year for South Carolina . 

He remained a long time member of the Forum Advisory Committee for YPO (1994 – 2000), served as Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank, Charlotte and was a member of the Small Business Advisory Council, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.  Bill served as Delegate to the White House conference on small business (President Reagan) and member White House Small Business Board (President Clinton).

 Bill holds thirty plus Patents in boat design, plastics manufacturing, computers and heat transfer and holds landmark Patents in 3-D printing around which approximately $15 million in startup capital was raised in SC in the early ‘90s and which patent expiration have led to the explosion in 3D printing.    Bill is a great believer in developing entrepreneurial skills and mentoring others and has written a book, The Process of Focus Forums to create and advocate for peer to peer advisory groups called Focus Forums which both NEXT center entrepreneurs and Clemson MBA have formed and are actively involved.
